New Social Media Platform? | I Made A Hive Social Account
Tired of Instagram and looking for a new social media platform? Me too, so when I heard about Hive Social, I had to try it out for myself. Keep reading to hear my full review of the new app.
This post is all about making my Hive Social account.
I am actually shocked at how early I am to this new social media platform. For the past two days, I have seen a couple of people I follow on Instagram started posting on their IG stories saying “follow me.” I had no idea what they were talking about, so I messaged one of them asking, “What is this?” and they responded mentioning it was a new app called Hive Social.
Being super intrigued, I had to download it and while I was on the app store I noticed it did not have the best reviews, but I proceed to try it out anyway. While the app was downloading onto my new iPhone 12 Pro, I decided to do a little Google search; I found an article that had been posted only two days ago that mentioned the mass increase of users that had signed up virtually overnight. This had caused the app to be super glitchy, which was the main complaint in the previously mentioned bad reviews. I can attest that the app was a bit slow and did not run very smoothly.

After I made my account, I could easily tell that this app was pulling inspiration from many other social media platforms: Instagram, Facebook, and even Myspace. The layout was practically identical to Instagram (the old version before they added reels and the stupid shopping tab). The interesting part was that your profile was a little more customizable; you are given a spot to add a banner and can even add songs to play when people are on your page i.e. my comment about Myspace. I set up my account easily and posted a few pictures but, I was not all that impressed.
I always get excited to find out about a new social media platform because you never know if it will be the next big success - like Tik Tok is ATM. However, I don’t see this becoming the next “IT” social media platform simply because it is far too similar to other apps already out there. This app just doesn’t function that well either, which is easily fixable, but is it worth it? The reason that Tik Tok was able to take over so quickly was because of how unique it was and there was not another platform like it. This is far too similar to Instagram to take off unless serious changes are made.
In the beginning, I was super excited because I think everyone can agree that Instagram is just not the same anymore and it is so frustrating to use with all the constant algorithm drama but, this just did not live up to my high expectations. Unfortunately, there is no way to delete your Hive Social account so I have set mine to private and will just let it live on my phone in the meantime.
