The world of raves and music festivals, in general, can seem intimidating to those who have never been before. One of the most stressful parts of any festival or concert is picking the perfect outfit. I don’t make the rules…this is just a fact. Ravewear needs to be comfortable, breathable, and functional, all while trying to look cute for photos. DUH! Below are some great pieces that I feel are rave must-haves you cannot go wrong with for your first festival. I also have an Amazon list of all my rave essentials to get you extra prepared!
This post is all about what to wear at your first rave.
Clothing: Outfits You Can Dance All Night In
One of the best parts of dressing for a rave or festival is knowing that anything goes and that you won’t be judged for what you have on. Luckily rave fashion doesn’t change much over the years and there are some staple pieces that every raver has in their closet. You can’t go wrong with a simple two-piece set, bodysuit, or romper. Luckily, Amazon has some super affordable options. If budget if no issue, Shay Kawaii, The Lumi Shop, and Disco Lemonade have some amazing pieces!
Tip: Look on resale sites like Poshmark, Depop, and eBay for people reselling their outfits for less!
bodysuits & Rompers
As a rave newcomer, I would highly recommend wearing a bodysuit or romper. Even rave veterans can be seen rocking a bodysuit because they are so comfortable and don’t take too much thought. These are so quick and easy to throw on and are perfect for dancing. I love wearing a simple outfit and letting my style and personality shine through with my accessories.
Two-piece sets
A matching set is another great option to wear for your first rave. I love a two-piece skirt set because I feel like I can re-wear it outside of a festival or concert. Plus, an added bonus is that using the restroom is a bit easier when your whole outfit isn’t one piece LOL.
bags: fanny pack or backpack
You are obviously going to need a bag to carry things like your phone, wallet, makeup, etc. I think any raver would agree the two best options are a fanny pack or backpack. These are perfect because you can just throw them on and forget about them since they are out of the way. I, personally, wouldn’t recommend a crossbody either because the strap is long and can easily get hooked onto things or other people. Backpacks are great if you want something more spacious - the backpack I use for every festival is an anti-theft bag, so I don’t get my phone stolen. I would also consider using a camelback so you can easily stay hydrated!
Pasties
Nipple pasties are absolutely essential to any rave-goer! It can get pretty hot in the crowd and if you’re going to be dancing all night you don’t want to wear anything too restricting - which could lead to the possibility of having a nip slip (UH OH). Whether you want to show off your pasties as part of your outfit or wear them for piece-of-mind that you won’t accidentally flash somebody, I would highly recommend picking up a few pairs.

shoes: sneakers or boots
The shoes you wear can make or break your whole day i.e. uncomfortable shoes = a horrible time. Nobody wants to be miserable at a festival because they chose an uncomfortable pair of shoes that have their feet bleeding and blistering. A simple pair of sneakers or a comfortable boot will have your feet thanking you! I also have a whole article on festival shoes but, I also linked a few rave-friendly platform boots and sneakers below.
tights
Throwing on a pair of fishnets can be the perfect way to elevate your rave look. So many people wear tights at raves - more specifically fishnet tights, for a few reasons. These are great to wear if you aren’t comfortable showing too much skin or they can just be used as an extra layer on your legs for warmth if it’s a little chilly outside. There are so many colors and options on Amazon so you are bound to find the perfect pair to match your fit.
pashmina
If you know you know… in all seriousness though, a pashmina is perfect to throw on or put in your bag since it’s so lightweight. I love these for nights when it gets a little chilly but is still too warm for a jacket and these are also great to sit on.
