first rave outfit

The world of raves and music festivals, in general, can seem intimidating to those who have never been before. One of the most stressful parts of any festival or concert is picking the perfect outfit. This is just a fact. Ravewear needs to be comfortable, breathable, and functional, all while trying to look cute for photos. DUH! I picked out some great pieces below that, I feel, are rave must-haves that you cannot go wrong with for your first festival. I also have an Amazon Storefront of all my rave essentials to get you extra prepared!

This post is all about what to wear at your first rave.

Clothing: Outfits You Can Dance All Night In

One of the best parts of dressing for a rave or festival is knowing that anything goes and that you won’t be judged for what you have on. Luckily rave fashion doesn’t change much over the years and there are some staple pieces that every raver has in their closet. You can’t go wrong with a simple two piece set or bodysuit and luckily Amazon has some super affordable options. If you don’t want to splurge on your outfit, Shay Kawaii and Discodisiac have some awesome pieces.

bags: fanny pack or backpack

You obviously are going to need a bag to carry things like your phone, wallet, makeup, etc. and I think any raver would agree the best two options are either a fanny pack or a backpack. These are perfect because you can just throw them on and forget about them since they are out of the way. I wouldn’t recommend a crossbody because the strap is kind of long and can easily get hooked onto things or other people. Backpacks are great if you want something more spacious - the backpack I use is an anti-theft bag, so I don’t get my phone stolen. I would also consider using a camelback so you can easily stay hydrated!

Pasties

Pasties are an absolute essential to any rave-goer! It can get really hot in the crowd and if you’re going to be spending the day dancing you don’t want to wear anything too restricting - which could lead to the possibility of a nip slip happening. Whether you want to show off your pasties in your look or wear them just for piece-of-mind that you won’t accidentally flash somebody, I would highly recommend picking up a few pairs.

Outfits: bodysuit or Matching set

As a rave-newcomer, I would highly recommend wearing some kind of set or a bodysuit. Even rave veterans can be seen rocking a bodysuit because they are super comfortable and don’t take too much thought. These are so quick and easy to throw on and are perfect for dancing. Going with a simple style and dressing it up with some fun accessories is a great way to stay true to yourself and show off your personal style. I didn’t link options just because there would be far too many. My favorite places to shop for these things would be Dolls Kill, Amazon, Shay Kawaii, and Depop is great for finding something unique and second-hand!

tights

Throwing on a pair of fishnets can be the perfect way to elevate your rave look. So many people wear tights at raves - more specifically fishnet tights, for a few reasons. These are great to wear if you aren’t comfortable showing too much skin or they can just be used as an extra layer on your legs for warmth if it’s a little chilly outside. There are so many colors and options on Amazon so you are bound to find the perfect pair to match your fit.

pashmina

If you know you know… in all seriousness though, a pashmina is perfect to throw on or put in your bag since it’s so lightweight. I love these for nights when it gets a little chilly but is still too warm for a jacket and these are also great to sit on.

shoes: sneakers or boots

The shoes you wear will make or break your whole day i.e. uncomfortable shoes = a horrible time. Nobody wants to be miserable because they chose the cuter but less comfortable pair of shoes. A simple pair of sneakers will have your feet thanking you; I have a whole article on festival shoes but I also linked a few rave-friendly platform boots and sneakers below.
